Water From Rainwater Cisterns

Many people are under the impression that the only reason to collect rainwater is to drink it. This requires purification and this leads many people to assume a rainwater collection system simply is not worth the effort. This is unfortunate because it is based on a faulty premise. The truth is that there are many uses for unfiltered rainwater.

Many rainwater cisterns are used not because the owner wants to collect the water, they merely want to stop the water from flowing and flooding or damaging a certain area. For example, a homeowner with basement seepage issues may collect the run off from their downspouts. Although this water is not fit to drink, there are many ways to use it including:

  • Irrigation, even if only watering the lawn
  • Flushing toilets
  • Washing cars
  • Cleaning clothes
  • Filling ponds, fountains and other water features

At RainHarvest Systems we can help you with a simple cistern or provide an entire rainwater harvesting system that allows you to get the most from the water you collect.

Your Rainwater Collection System

RainHarvest Systems has several collection options. You can, if you wish, choose from simple rainwater cisterns, rain water barrels or construct your own system by the piece. Kits are also available to include everything you need to start collecting rain.

If you are interested in a complete rainwater collection system, RainHarvest Systems offers above and below ground tank options. Above ground systems are often a bit more expensive, but they are also easier to install. Below ground tanks require a great deal of digging however many people consider above ground tanks to be unattractive. Below ground tanks have the advantage of being less prone to evaporation, which may be important in very dry climates.
